From the moment the Hello Fresh box arrived, we knew it was going to be fun.
We smelled the goodness right out of the box and secretly wished we got a larger box to make it a 3-day relay of nightly dinner party.
Regardless, we had a blast eating delicious meals for 3 days and learning some new cooking skills!
Now we can confidently teach you how to cook sirloin steak and what cooking asparagus entails.
Here is what was on our plate for the last three days courtesy of Hello Fresh.
- Day 1: Chicken Yakitori with Crispy Chuka Soba Stir-Fry
- Day 2: Steak Tagliata with Rosemary Sweet Potato Wedges & Watercress Salad
- Day 3: Spring Tortellini Gratis with Basil Pesto & Asparagus
Because we test out numerous products here at Fitwirr, we often go in with a bit of skepticism, but we can honestly say meal subscription service from Hello Fresh is top notch and deserves a praise.
Here are 5 things we absolutely loved about Hello Fresh
Yes, you can find an amazing recipe from Pinterest and do your own grocery shopping, but what we realize is how convenient it actually is to have a recipe picked out, ingredients purchased and measured, and clear instructions given.
It's truly a time and energy saver. This convenience alone is worth every penny of their service.
No.2: Culinary experience
You may cook frequently in your daily life, but what you don't realize is an opportunity that widens your culinary experience at home is a rare one.
Too often we get into the routine of cooking the same dishes over and over again and the excitement over dinner diminishes over time.
A meal subscription service like Hello Fresh knows exactly how to spice things up without pushing your experience too far and foreign that we would be reluctant to try.
In our experience, none of us really knew how to cook chuka soba noodles or use Hoisin sauce, but after our first day with "Hello Fresh", we might just be able to call ourselves an Asian cuisine aficionado.
If you are conscious budgeter and know your grocery numbers really well, you can attest to how reasonable these meal services really are especially if you consider all the other perks you get from their services.
Price per plate starts a bit north of $10. For 3 day dinner kit for two, it's $69 including shipping.
Think for a second. How many times do you stop at a grocery store a week? Three times? five times? or everyday? If you spend $50 or more per visit, you can be spending a whooping $350 or more on grocery a week.
Just by signing up with Hello Fresh, you can probably cut your grocery store visits and slush your unnecessary spending at your local store.
No.4: Cooking skills
Before Hello Fresh, none of us at Fitwirr really knew how to cook sirloin steak the right way. Now we can proudly say we know how to handle our steak.
Thanks to Hello Fresh, we also know how to dress up the watercress salad and steak with very simple kitchen staples like balsamic vinegar and dried oregano.
No.5: Generous portion
This is not to say we love a generous portion on our plate. We believe in eating just the right amount.
What we like about Hello Fresh's portion is that it's generous and allows us plenty of extra for sharing. They really don't skimp on any ingredients, on Day 1, there was way enough of noodle that gave us plenty for leftovers.
On Da 2, we had abundance of watercress that we ate some on Day 3 as a salad. On our last day, again, there was way more pasta than we could plate for two.
Yes, it's a 3 day service, but the amount of food they deliver is really enough for 2 days worth of leftovers in our honest opinions.
With that said, what we hope to see in the future from Hello Fresh is a wider menu options. I would love to see more gluten-free options and less carb oriented meals.
Regardless, we are hooked and not sure if we can go back to old way of cooking dinner... Yes, it was that good.
