Rice comes in all different varieties and is consumed by half the world’s population.
It is a staple of Indian cuisine as well as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine as well.
North America and South America also eat rice on a daily basis.
There are many types of rice on the market for many different purposes.
Short-grain rice is good for sushi and rice balls because the grains hold more water and stick together.
Medium and long-grain rice like basmati and jasmine are great for rice pilaf dishes because they don’t stick together and will come out light and fluffy.
This is really good because the rice absorbs all the delicious flavors of the broth, herbs, and spices it is cooked in.

What Is Golden Rice?
Golden rice, also known as yellow rice, is enjoyed in various cuisines around the world but may include different ingredients.

Some recipes use coconut milk, pine nuts, and chopped veggies.
These ingredients lend a different flavor to each type of dish. It makes an excellent alternative to pasta or potatoes.
If you have ever visited Middle Eastern restaurants, you may have been served a very generous bed of Shawarma rice along with the meat and vegetable dishes you ordered.
It’s flavorful and really makes the meal enjoyable. It is also great the next day served as leftovers for lunch.
What you will need for this recipe:
Pressure cooker, instant pot, or pan with a tight-fitting lid. It is important to keep the steam in when cooking rice.
You may need to lift the lid for a second or two if the pot starts foaming and boiling over.
If using a pan on the stove, it should be deep enough to allow a couple of inches of head room to keep rice from boiling over.
You will need a type of healthy fat such as butter, coconut oil, or olive oil. It keeps the rice soft and keeps it from sticking together.
Clarified butter or Ghee is a good choice and a very traditional ingredient to use in this dish.
It adds the flavor of butter but doesn’t burn because the liquid components have been removed from it.
You will need chicken stock, or vegetable broth (for a vegetarian option).
Fragrant and aromatic vegetables like onion, garlic, and ginger (optional).
Basmati or jasmine rice, (or any other type of long-grain rice such as brown rice), salt, pepper, and turmeric (curcumin).
Golden Turmeric Rice Tips
When it comes to making Turmeric rice or any type of rice dish, the first step is to rinse your rice well with fresh, cold water to remove any dust or debris before cooking.
Rinsing also removes some of the starch from the rice helping it to stay fluffy as it cooks. Any extra starch will make your rice sticky.
To rinse the rice, measure and pour your rice into a colander or large bowl and add water to ice above the rice.
Swirl the rice around in the bowl with your hand until the water turns milky (resembling coconut milk or rice milk).
Carefully pour out the water, being careful not to lose any rice down the sink.
Repeat this process 3-4 times until the water remains clear when you swish. Drain off the water, and you’re ready to start cooking!
Sauté the vegetables and aromatics in butter or oil until golden brown.
This process releases the sweetness in the onions and the pungency of the garlic. This will make your rice taste amazing!
Get your pan, rice cooker, or whatever you are going to make the rice in, ready and turned on.
Don’t worry if you don’t have any fancy cooking equipment, a pan on the stove with a tight lid will work just fine.
Set the temperature for the rice cooker, instant pot, pressure cooker, and add your rice to it.
For stovetop cooking, add your rice to the pan with your chicken stock and vegetables, salt, and pepper. Cook for 20 minutes, and then turn off.
This is very important. When the cooking time has passed, remove the pan from the heat with the lid on, and allow it to sit for at least 5-10 minutes.
When the time is up, fluff your rice with a fork or a rice paddle and enjoy!
That is all there is to making savory turmeric rice, right from your own kitchen.
Then just add a meat and vegetable side to go with it and you have a fabulous lunch or dinner meal.
For a traditional Middle Eastern dinner, add some type of meat, lentils, stewed vegetables, and a side of garlic Naan bread.
Goes great with curry dishes, kabobs, and anything you would eat rice with. It’s the perfect accompaniment!
